A stroller can collect enough crumbs, damp clothing, and loose accessories to make the next outing awkward. Its reset should begin with the child and the moving parts, not with restocking snacks. Unload it after use, inspect the parts that affect safe operation, and park it so the next adult can tell whether it is ready.

Unload before folding

Move the baby to an appropriate place before cleaning or folding the stroller. Take food, drinks, wet cloths, and personal items out of the seat and storage basket. Remove anything that could jam the folding mechanism. A small accessory pouch can stay nearby, but do not assume every attachment can remain fitted when the frame folds.

Open the canopy and fabric folds to check for damp areas. Dry weather covers according to their instructions before storing them. A cover pushed into the basket while wet can leave the next trip starting with damp equipment. Keep detached clips and other small parts outside the child's reach rather than dropping them into the seat.

Check the stroller as equipment

Use the exact model's manual to inspect brakes, wheels, frame locks, and restraints. Confirm that the stroller opens and locks correctly before placing the child inside. If a wheel is loose, a brake does not engage as intended, or a strap is damaged, take the stroller out of use until the issue is resolved through the manufacturer. Cleaning is not a repair.

The CPSC warns that infants must be properly secured in strollers. Use the restraint system as instructed rather than treating the tray or bumper bar as a belt. Check that the seat configuration and any infant attachment are appropriate for your child's size and development. Similar-looking adapters are not interchangeable unless the manufacturer specifies compatibility.

Clean without damaging functional parts

Remove crumbs and grit in the way the manual allows. Check the footrest, seams, basket, and wheel areas rather than wiping only the visible seat. Wash detachable textiles only if the care instructions permit it, and allow them to dry fully before reassembly. Do not soak a restraint, lubricate a mechanism, or use a strong chemical simply because that worked on another stroller.

Keep the model information with your gear records and check for recalls, especially before returning a stored stroller to use. If a cover or strap must be replaced, obtain the specified part. A homemade substitute may change how the restraint or folding system works even if it seems to fit.

Reload for the next trip, not every trip

Pack only accessories you expect to use, within the manufacturer's load limits and designated storage areas. Do not hang a loaded diaper bag from the handle unless the exact instructions permit that use. Added weight can affect stability. Keep hot drinks away from the child and do not use an accessory cup holder as reassurance that a spill cannot happen.

Reassess shade and weather protection when leaving. Do not drape a blanket over the stroller to create an enclosed shaded space. Check the baby directly and shorten the outing if conditions are unsuitable. A stroller is transportation equipment, not an alternative routine infant sleep space; transfer a sleeping baby to an appropriate sleep surface when you can do so safely.

Park with a clear status

Follow the manual for folding, storage locks, and brakes. Keep the stroller away from stairs and escape routes, with loose straps controlled. Tell another caregiver if it is wet, awaiting a part, or unsuitable to use. A ready stroller is one whose condition and configuration are known, not simply one that looks tidy by the door.
